The life
The middle Brontë published one novel and a handful of poems, under the name Ellis Bell, and died the year after it appeared. She rarely left the Yorkshire moors and wrote almost nothing about herself, which is one reason her book still feels unattributed to any world but its own.
She wrote the most violent love story in English fiction and refused to judge either party in it.
