Robert Louis Stevenson

The life

Chronically ill from childhood, Stevenson wrote adventure to pay for health and travelled in search of it, ending in Samoa. He claimed the plot of Jekyll and Hyde came to him in a dream, and burned the first draft for being too sensational.

He showed that modern horror could be a story about a respectable professional.
